It’s so nice to be back in the office! Not that I don’t love Nain, but it’s nice to be back home and at work in my office rather than the “satellite office” I had fashioned over there. 🙂
To be honest, I kinda miss Nain and the wonderful shopping at the craft store! I’ll be back someday…many people have been saying that I’m probably afraid to go back because I’ll get stuck! Nah…I’m always up for a good adventure!
Anyway, I’d planned to share photos from Nain for my first blog entry back in the office, but I have way too much work to do right now in trying to get the magazine finished. So to occupy your time, here’s a video about the Labrador Winter Games that you might enjoy! (Found it on YouTube.) It makes me want to go out and do all sorts of activities!
It’s funny, with this spring weather it seems like we’ll have warm weather like the Winter Olympics in Vancouver by the time the Winter Games start next week.
P.S. If you’re interested, I was on CBC radio last Friday, wondering when I would get to leave Nain! Funnily enough, I left shortly thereafter! Click here to listen.
Wow, did anyone see the sun out there? I did it was awesome!! Mother Nature loves us again! Well Aimee is back in the office, YAY!! So nice to have her back, now our little office is complete. It must have been hard being weather bound in Nain for so long, I really do not know how she did it. Now that she is back it is constant work on the magazine, which I would like to remind you, will be 35 in less than 3 weeks. I am so excited to be a part of another issue, It really is a privilige to take part in preserving Labrador traditions. Anyone would be so lucky to have the opportunity, I’m just glad it’s me.
On another note, the Labrador Winter Games is comming soon! I’m sure the town will be packed in the next couple of weeks or so. Communites comming together, thats what Labrador is about. I was really wanting to go to the games but unfourtunatly it is sold out already .. :(, thats ok hopefully I will be able to see some of it on T.V. or over the internet.
Well thats all for me today, it’s back to the Magazine, I hear it calling my name. Take care everyone, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts..:)
Me again, is anyone else wondering where the sun went, I mean it hasn’t shown its self it what seems like forever, and the snow, it’s like its running away. This winter is pretty unusual if you ask me. It almost seems like mother nature has a grudge with us or something, she took away our sun, she is taking away our snow and she is holding Aimee hostage in Nain.. 😦 No trouble to miss her, I’m trying my best to fill Aimee’s shoes while she is away, well not fill her shoes but do things I think may help while she is gone, Kinda hard sometimes. Aimee does so much!! We miss you Aimee we really want you to come back now!!
In other news there is not a whole lot new going on this way, like I said Aimee is away so we are doing our best to keep up with the everyday routines, I am getting ready to transcribe some tapes, and Marleah is still working on her slides, but is always there when I need her help! She is such a good worker! I know it must be hard on Aimee not being here to help her and also learn a bit from her, she has been away almost the whole time Marleah has been here.. 😦
Well I guess thats all for today, keep on wishing for the sun and some nice weather, maybe if we all stick together and wish really hard the weather will be nice and Aimee can come home!!! Until next time ..
So, I’ve been stuck in Nain now for 11 days (this is in addition to the time I was scheduled to be here). I’ve seen all kinds of weather in that time, from sunny blue skies (but the freezing rain between here and Goose Bay prevented the planes from coming) to rain storms to snow to fog. It’s quite warm now, and the snow is melting. We’ve got huge puddles of water/slush in the middle of the road…drivers beware!
This came from a day I was weatherbound, believe it or not.
Around suppertime one evening in Nain (yep, when I was weatherbound). I was frustrated with the weather, and went for a ski-doo ride to get some fresh air. This was only on the second day or so. (!!!)
The roads of Nain - not particularly good for driving a ski-doo around!
It’s frustrating, but what can you do? You can’t exactly change the weather, so you just have to make the best of it. I’ve learned a new stitch in knitting, so I’ve been busying myself with that. I’m also working on a puzzle of a mama polar bear with a baby polar bear in the snow…the hardest puzzle I’ve ever tried! At the rate we’re going, I don’t want to be here by the time we finish! 🙂
Cross your fingers for me that the fog lifts!

It’s Monday morning and Aimee is still not back, and it is the beginning if my third week at Them Days. I have been busy scanning slides, reading transcripts and reading Them Days. After only ten days of working here I already know just as much if not more about Labrador then my own hometown. I can’t wait to see what I will come across during the rest of my time here at Them Days. On another note, what happened to the Labrador winter I was expecting, everything appears to be melting. Bailing out the driveway rather then shovelling it is not exactly the winter I had envisioned.
I should get back to work, these slides won’t scan themselves. ❤ Marleah
Hey guys it me again 🙂 How are you all doing? We are great here except for the fact that Aimee is still not back from nain … thats the weather for you though .. We really wish she would get back soon, the office is just not the same without her .. 🙂 Kelly, Marleah and I are keeping ourselves busy, always work to be done! I must say Marleah is doing a fantastic job so far, she keeps herself busy, she must have almost all of the slides scanned, wow!! That is a lot of slides! I, myself am still working on a box of old APLs thought I could breeze right through them, little did I know they were harder then I thought, I’m just glad I have my little book with me, I must admit that book is helping me out a lot!!
Well we changed the retail space again, it still looks very nice and comfy, so comfy infact it may make you want to come down and read a few books, take a look at some old items such as, an old javax bottle ( I think is Awesome, it’s a glass bottle.. can you believe that? .. I was truly amazed) I would come down and check it out if I were you .. may be worth your while, you never know you might find something from your past that you never knew about. I have learned a lot about my family since I have been here, it is really amazing how much you learn just by reading a book or two. 🙂
Well Guys thats it for me today, I’ll be back on Monday or Tuesday with another entry, I am still trying to get Marleah to write another one, she claims she is shy .. :)She won’t be when she is finished here .. 🙂 Until another day .. Talk to you later ..
Hello from my “satellite office” in Nain. (Not really, but I’ve been here so long I might as well have moved here!) 🙂
That’s the thing about travelling on the coast of Labrador in the winter – or anytime of the year, I guess – you never know if you’ll stay on schedule! It’s Thursday now and I’ve been trying to get out since Sunday. I’ve heard stories of longer delays from my family of pilots, so I suppose this isn’t too bad. The funny thing is, it’s been pretty good in Nain all week. Some days have been sunny with blue skies…but there has been freezing rain between here and Goose Bay, so planes that have made it through have been iced up pretty bad by the time they made it up here. We’ve been having such a weird winter this year…if only it would get colder so the freezing rain would turn into snow!
The first couple of days, I still had hope that I was getting out, so I waited around for the weather hold to be lifted, but the more recent couple of days, I’ve just accepted that I’m not getting out, so I’ve been more productive and have been trying to make the best of my time here. If I knew I was staying this long, I would have brought some supplies and learned how to make some kamiks in the evenings!
Have you seen this video? It’s an ad for the Torngat Mountains National Park put out by the province. It’s absolutely beautiful and the little girl is just lovely. I just met her mother the other day and so I was reminded of this video.
Anyway, back to work for me!
P.S. Look what I just found — coverage of my photo exhibit on a local blog! How exciting!
