Yesterday during lunch, the Employment Transitions program (part of the Labrador Friendship Centre) held a barbecue in the Leon Cooper Memorial Park across from the Friendship Centre. There were hot dogs, hamburgers, baked goods and water and juice for sale (at very reasonable prices). There were rice krispy squares, cupcakes and chocolate chip and oatmeal muffins. The money raised is going towards Libra House.
It was a beautiful sunny day (22 degrees!), perfect weather for the first (to my knowledge) public barbecue of the summer. All of us except Jill, who had to pick up her daughter, went out to enjoy the food and sunshine. So that made the total number of people 5, because the temporary replacement editor for Aimee (while she’s on maternity leave) started today! Her name is Sarah Michaud and she’s originally from Fredericton. Aimee is still with us and she’ll be teaching Sarah the ropes over the next few weeks.
The barbecue was pretty busy at the beginning of lunch, with quite a few people walking to the park, as well as people stopping by on the side of the road. It was great to sit outside and enjoy the food and I hope the weather stays nice for the rest of the season now. I’m tired of the rain!
