What a beautiful winter day!

Today is a gorgeous winter day. It’s so still, the snow that fell last night has stayed on the trees, covering each and every branch in white.

The snow covers every branch of every tree and bush perfectly

Today was also Day Three of Them Days Christmas stories on Labrador Morning. If you would like to contribute your own Christmas story, Them Days and CBC are giving away a few colouring books to people who call up and share.

P.S. Have you heard of #26Acts of Kindness? I think I might go ahead and do this!

Merry Christmas to us! (Also, delay in the magazine)

Image

Board chair Susan stopped by today with a lovely basket of fruit for the three of us in the office.  As you can see, one of us (cough, cough) has already opened the Toblerone bar.  (Yum!)

Thank you to the Board for this lovely gift!  Fruit is such a good way to perk up during those afternoon sugar lows!

We also have some not-so-great news.  If you’ve been talking to us recently, you’ll know that the magazine is at the printers, but what you don’t know (we just learned this afternoon) is that it likely won’t be back in time for Christmas as we had hoped.  There were some breakdowns at the printers and they are behind schedule.  Keep your fingers crossed though…you never know if it might show up!  If you are giving Them Days as a gift this Christmas, we do have gift notification cards you can stick in a stocking.  We usually give them out with all the gift subscriptions, but if for some reason you don’t have one, you can stop by and pick one up.

In my inbox: message from above

This morning, I opened my e-mail and got the usual new messages. Some listserv messages, some newsletters, some press releases, a reply to something I’d sent yesterday, that sort of thing. And then, there was this one. Clearly, a personal e-mail meant just for me. It even had a read-receipt request! And, as you can see, it’s High Priority.

50+ Club Fun

A couple of weeks ago, we held an event in conjunction with the Friendship Centre’s 50+ Club. I used to do a fair bit with the club, so I was glad to be invited back to spend some time with the group!

Alicia and I headed down to the College’s Aboriginal Resource Centre and set up for an afternoon of photos and video (and there was cookies and tea too–yum!).

So much fun!

So much fun!

We brought a box of unidentified photos, post-it notes and magnifying glasses. Many of the photos are just copies/prints of photos elsewhere in the archives, but if we can’t identify anything about the picture, it can be hard to know where it is supposed to be, or how it is supposed to be labelled. (And going through thousands of photos to find a match can be a bit tedious!) That’s where these events come in handy.

We also watched Labrador Pastimes: Toys, Games and Amusements, a video that was made as a collaboration between MUN and Them Days in the early 1980s.

It’s a really fun video, and it got everybody talking about games they used to play. Someone had brought her knitting along, so she had some yarn, and we used it to play some string games.
